After observing several instances of relatives and patients in the ICU who has expanded visitation policies, has been implicated them in the care of their sick family member, and has authorized the use of electronic devices, at the same time we have seen how it has appeared a great complicity between family members and professionals, to the point of being excessive and counterproductive with loss limits and confusion between the rights and obligations of patients and families regarding professionals.
In this way and only in some instances, we have seen how “treating someone as a colleague” and sometimes the excess of information has resulted in a pathological relationship between the family and professionals, ending with the loss of respect for the excellent work of the professionals of the service.
What I am talking about is not a case or two but some more and to my understand, it has its explanation in that in our country and probably in all, the education, the respect to the work of the professional, the relationship between people and the humanity is a well precious of the society that not all the world is enough prepared for exercise regardless of social stratum to which people belong.
We would have to ask if the own professional have known keep in our site and put to patients and family in theirs at the beginning of the process of being admitted to ICU. It is not an easy task, but we must devote the time necessary to give fair and proper information to each family and patient.
I would like you to understand my point of view. I’m not saying that classic care in the ICU was better, quite the opposite, but if I want to warn that due to lack of education and understanding of some people and even some professionals, sometimes can occur that “IC-HU gets out of hands”.
